About
Who writes Marketplace Tips, and why
I'm Bob Kidd. I'm not a financial adviser, and I don't work for a bank. I'm an ordinary investor who got tired of market news that was either too technical to follow or too loud to trust.
Most market coverage is written for professionals or written to make you click. Neither helps if you have a retirement account, a few ETFs, and a reasonable wish to understand what is going on with your money.
So I started Marketplace Tips with three rules:
- Plain English. If a term needs explaining, it gets one line of explanation, every time.
- No hype. No "this stock will triple." Nobody knows that. We report what happened and the reasons given for it.
- Every number has a source. Each issue lists where its numbers came from, so you can check them.
Marketplace Tips covers both the US and Canada, because many readers have money in both, and because Canadian markets deserve better coverage than a line at the bottom of a US newsletter.
It is published by TilyD Ltd.
What this newsletter is not: it is not personal investment advice. I don't know your situation, and I never tell readers to buy or sell anything. For decisions about your own money, talk to a licensed adviser.
